The Brazilian government launched their Digital Nomad Visa in January 24, 2022. It allaws people to live and work in Brazil for one year, whilest employed for a company outsize of Brazil. While the visa is only valid for one year, there's the option to renew it for another year.
Requirements
Here are the requirements for the Brazil Digital Nomad Visa:
- Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for the duration of your visa.
- Proof of Remote Work: You need to provide contracts or documentation proving you work or freelance for companies outside of Brazil.
- Income Requirement: You must make an income of $1,500 per month or have $18,000 in the bank upon submitting your application. For each additional dependent, you must add $60 per month to the minimum income requirement.
- Health Insurance: You must have health insurance coverage in Brazil for the duration of your stay.
- Clean Criminal Background: You must have a clean criminal history certified from your home country’s government.
Application process
The application process for the Brazil Digital Nomad Visa involves the following steps:
- Gather Documents: Before you start the visa application process, you should gather all of the necessary documents. This includes your valid passport, proof of remote work, proof of income, health insurance coverage, and a clean criminal background certificate.
- Fill out Online Application: You need to fill out the online application form on the official Brazilian government website.
- Upload Documents: Upload all the necessary documents to the E-Consular portal and submit it to get the receipt.
- Make an Appointment: Make an appointment at the nearest Brazilian Consulate. Print out all the documents and bring them to your appointment.
- Consular Review: The Consulate will review your application, collect the fee payment, and provide confirmation or delivery.
The cost of the Brazil Digital Nomad Visa is generally around 120 EUR (approximately 130 USD) for applicants from most countries. However, this fee can fluctuate based on the consulate through which you are applying. Some sources also mention that the visa typically costs $100.
It typically takes around 5 working days to process your visa. However some sources seem to suggest it could take up to 30 days for some applicants.
Taxes
As a digital nomad in Brazil, you would be considered a tax resident if you have been in Brazil for more than 184 days, consecutive or not, within a period of 12 months.
Brazil has a progressive tax rate of up to 27.5%.
