EU citizens
If you’re an EU citizen, you don’t require the Czech Republic Digital Nomad Visa. Citizens of all European Union countries enjoy the freedom to move from one country to another without a tourist visa. If you’re planning to stay in the Czech Republic for more than three months and up to a year while conducting business, you might consider the “Zivno visa”, a trade license under the Trade Licensing Act2. Please check the latest updates from official sources or consult with a visa expert before making any decisions.
Taxes
As a digital nomad in the Czech Republic, your tax obligations can be complex and depend on several factors, such as your nationality, residency status, income source, tax treaty, and tax obligations in your home country. Here are some key points to consider:
- Income Tax: The Czech Republic applies two tax brackets. On the first amount of around €82,000 (indexed yearly), you pay 15% in income taxes. On any income above that threshold, a tax rate of 23% applies.
- Investment Income Tax: On most investment income, you will pay a flat tax rate of 15%.
- US Tax Obligations: If you are a US citizen living in the Czech Republic as a digital nomad, you will be required to file a US tax return. However, it’s possible that you will not owe any taxes, so long as your US expat tax return is filed correctly.
