Italy has recently launched their own Digital Nomad visa. This visa will allow remote workers to live and work in Italy for up to one year, with the option to renew it anually.

Requirements

The requirements for the new Digital Nomad visa in Italy are as follows:

  • Income Requirement: The visa is open to workers who have an annual income of at least three times the minimum level required for exemption from participation in healthcare costs in Italy, which equals out at just under €28,000 annually.
  • Health Insurance: Individuals need to take out robust health insurance plans valid for the entire period of their stay.

  • Regime Forfetario: This is a 5% flat tax for the first five years on a percentage (typically 78%) of gross billings, for the self-employed earning (gross) up to €65,000 per year.
  • Impatriates Regime: This provides a 70%/90% exemption in calculating earned income subject to tax.

Additionally, foreign professionals and remote workers who relocate to Italy through the Self-employed Visa will only have to pay taxes on five percent of their annual income.
