Latvia Digital Nomad Visa
Latvia has recently launched a digital nomad visa that can be held only by internationals employed by a company registered with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) or self-employed with a business registered in an OECD country.
The Latvian digital nomad visa is valid for up to one year, and can be renewed for another year. After living in Latvia for 2 years, you can apply for permanent residency. After 5 years of permanent residency, you can apply for Latvian citizenship.
Requirements
The requirements for the Latvia digital nomad visa are as follows:
- Valid passport: You must have a valid passport.
- Proof of employment in an OECD country: You must be working for a company registered in an OECD country or self-employed with a business registered in an OECD country.
- Proof of remote work: You must prove that you work remotely for a company by showing a work contract or business statement.
- Proof of income: You must prove that you have an income by submitting bank statements and payslips.
- Sufficient financial means: You must prove that you have a monthly income of at least €2,857.
- Valid health insurance: You must have valid health insurance that covers you during your stay.
Applications process
The application process for the Latvian digital nomad visa involves the following steps:
- Gather all the necessary documents: This includes proof of remote work or freelance income, health insurance coverage, and proof of accommodation.
- Complete the visa form: Fill out the e-visa form ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date.
- Attach a recent photograph: The photograph should be no older than six months4.
- Pay the visa fee: The standard fee for the Latvia digital nomad visa is set at €60. If you wish for an expedited process, the fee is €120.
Taxes
In Latvia, digital nomads who are citizens and residents of OECD member states and have obtained a Latvian digital nomad visa have the right to choose to apply a 15% personal income tax rate to income earned in Latvia. This is instead of the progressive rates, which can go up to 31 percent. To be eligible for this deduction, digital nomads must register as taxpayers with the State Revenue Service of Latvia.
